How much do you need to make to file taxes?

I just started working at this printing place yesterday and I was wondering how much do I have to make to file taxes. This is just a summer job for me and will only last like 2 months. I work 4 hrs each day and make $8.00/hr. The only thing I am confused on, is that my employer gave me a w-9 form to fill out which is a 10-99 which is for self employee... but im not a self employee... im a employee that WORKS for him. What should I do? I'm wondering if I should just file a SS8 Form at the end of the job so I dont have to pay that much tax for 10-99. That is why I am asking the question how much do I have to make to file taxes. My dad told me, if I dont make more then $9000 something a year, then I dont need to file taxes? Please help me! Thanks!
